SimilartotheGDPR,theCCPAgivesCaliforniaresidentstherighttorequestacopyoftheirpersonalinformation.Ifacustomerrequestsacopyoftheirpersonalinformation,thenyoushouldrespondtothemwithin45days.Ifthatisnotpossibleduetothecomplexityornumberofrequests,thenyoushouldinformthecustomerthatanother45daysarenecessary.Ifyoudecidenottofulfilltherequest,thenyoushouldinformthecustomerwhyyouwillnotactiontherequestwithin45days.

Steps:

Verifythattheidentityoftherequestermatchesthecustomerwhosedataisbeingrequested.

FromyourShopifyadmin,gotoCustomers.

Searchforthenameofthecustomer.

UnderCustomerprivacy,clickRequestcustomerdata.

Theidentifiablepersonalinformationstoredaboutthatcustomerwillbesenttothestoreownersemailaddress.

Yourrequestisthensenttothird-partyappsyouhavecurrentlyinstalledonyourstore.Thethirdpartyappdeveloperswillindependentlycontactyouaboutthisrequest.

Youcanthencombinetheinformationthatyoureceivewithanyotherinformationyoumightstoreaboutthecustomerandprovideittothecustomer.Whenprovidingthisinformation,youshouldexplaintothecustomerwhatcategoriesandspecificpiecesofinformationyouhadcollected.

Completedeletionrequests

TheCCPAalsoallowsCaliforniaresidentstorequestdeletionoftheirpersonalinformation.Ifyoureceivearequest,youmustactionitorinformthecustomerwhyyouwillnotactiontherequestwithin45days.

Steps:

ClickErasepersonaldata.

Yourrequestisthensenttothirdpartyappsyouhavecurrentlyinstalledonyourstore.Thethirdpartyappdeveloperswillindependentlyactionorcontactyouaboutthisrequest.

Shopifyprocessesyourrequestaftera10daybufferperiod,duringwhichyoucancanceltherequest.Tocancelapendingdeletionrequest,contactShopifySupport.MakesuretoincludeyourstoreinformationandtherelevantcustomerID.

Whenyourequestadeletion,Shopifyredactsonlyidentifyingpersonalinformation(suchasnameandaddress).Youranonymizedorderinformationremainsintactincaseyouneeditforaccountingpurposes.Aftertherelevantpersonalinformationisdeleted,youreceiveaconfirmationemail.

Bydefault,Shopifydoesntdeletepersonalinformationifthecustomerhasmadeanorderinthelast6months(180days),incaseachargebackoccurs.Ifarequestfordeletionissubmittedinthattimeframe,thenitwillsitpending,andShopifywillactionitaftertheappropriatetimehaspassed.Youdonotneedtosubmitanotherrequest.Tooverridethistimedelay,contactShopifySupport.

engageinpeer-reviewedscientific,historical,orstatisticalresearchinthepublicinterestifthesubjectshaveprovidedinformedconsent

enablesolelyinternalusesthatarereasonablyalignedwiththeexpectationsofthecustomerbasedonthecustomer’srelationshipwiththebusiness

complywithalegalobligation.
